And the Lands Red, Too

This isn't to say
that there weren't
calamities
as a result
of the confluence
of native and European folk,
that the land did not run red
with blood
from the moment they met,
the land anguished periods
in which disparate cultures
tried to reconcile each other
to very different existences;
admitting one thing
should not negate another,
even if that is what recent observers
have tried so hard
to say.

If you miss rhymes
in my work
that's what you won't find
in recent histories,
too.
