Visitors today,

perhaps,

don't really see

the mission behind the mission,

the small stature

of the structure

not so impressive

as the legacy

left behind

by the tale

of the Alamo,

that siege

between Texans

and Santa Anna,

who in Mexico

was not quite

as the defenders saw him,

as they fought

for what would become

the largest territory

in the continental states.
