Against All Mankind

The perception

we are to have

of the natives now

is that they were at peace

with all the land,

and that may be so

but in terms of relations

between each other

they seem to have been set

against all mankind,

which was why

it was so easy

for the Europeans

to maneuver around them,

because they could never work together

at least not in large enough scale

for long enough,

to exert any real

opposition.

This is the picture

of the march 

ever onward

and perhaps

it's time

to admit

that this is how it was

and not let the opposition itself

continue to define

the results.
